Default Mechanic to see if you get stuck in Narooma.

Wasnt sure where to put this but It had to go up on the site here somewhere.

The story goes.....Whilst down the coast recently I had troubles with my exhaust that had to be fixed then and there. Every mechanic that the NRMA put me onto needed a day to get to it even though it was a 10 minute job. Jack it up, put in a few bolts and gasket then off. They also all wanted around 50 to 100 bucks for the job and I wasnt happy with this as it was just taking advantage of a tourist in a tight spot. I was at their mercy and they knew it. I expressed my displeasure at this to the NRMA rep who then called a mate of his in the same town who has nothing to do with NRMA who told me to drive up and he'd do it then and there.
So, I drove up, met the guy who turned out to be a commodore fan (owning 2 and building up a stroker for one of them) and he fixed me up in 10 mins flat and charged 10 bucks.
he was a real nice bloke and so where his staff. Its rare to walk into a workshop and be made comfortable and encouraged to watch the work they are doing on your car. Once finnished we discussed the pros and cons of turbo nissan mtrs in VLs then looked over his 64 dodge that he is restoring. I have to say that regarldess of the shitty day Id had and the anger I had built up at the way the other shops had tried to profit off my missfortune and run me around, I had the best experience Ive ever had with a mechanic thats not already my friend in my life. Because of this and his great service and love of Commodores I promised him Id post his shop details on out club site. To this he promised that If any members were in need of mechanical repairs whilst in the Narooma area he would look after them as he did me. Even something like a quick weld to the boat trailer. So long as it doesnt require parts, he will do it for a CCA member then and there. (parts need time to get to the remote location of the small coastal town.)
I cant talk him up enough so his details are.....
Heavy Duty Automotive and Narooma radiators is the shop/s name. His name is...
Greg Marsden
(hes a kiwi but ya cant hold that against him eh Ez)
The address is...
2/26 Glasshouse Rocks road Narooma NSW.

Great story Ian.
So refreshing to hear some goodwill stories from some decent people in the world.
You didn't happen to hand him a CCA club card or membership form did you???

I remember a couple of years back, on my way home in the wee hours, from being a wedding car, my power steering bottle worked it's way loose, dropped into the motor, fluid went everywhere and the belt slipped off the motor. I managed to limp her home with the steering failing as I pulled into my driveway.
The next day I went to see my regular mechanic, Peter, whose w/shop is literally a 2 minute walk from my home. He went and got the belt and popped it back onto the pulleys for me. All he charged was the cost of the new belt and the power steering fluid. I offered him a case of beer, but he refused.
He got that beer anyway! LOL

That's so nice to hear. People like that deserve all the business they can get.

My car was leaking water once, on a long trip. The mechanic at the local servo said the radiator was dead, and wanted me to wait 24 hours for a new one, and pay something like $600. This was quite a few years ago. I told him I was on my way to Canberra that night, and the car would just have to make it. It did, and my local mechanic then replaced the faulty radiator cap for a few dollars.
