No, not really.

You see there was this one empty space in the list of threads and I just HAD to fill it in so it didn't look lonely.

Feel free to say something about sound systems if you are into those. I bet a lot of you have doof-doof cars and don't want to admit it. Come out of the closet and see who's got the biggest one.

I don't have much of a stereo but it's pretty decent for what it is.

Pioneer Headunit
Pioneer 6 inch 3 ways - front
Pioneer 6 inch 4 ways - back
Cheap Strathfield special 250watt amp
12 inch 800w Sony Sub.

Nothing huge but is pretty good for what it is.

P.S Wouldn't mind upgrading to a DVD player but got other things I wanna do first. Plus need money for that, LOL.

My Stereo is the one that Mr Holden put in at his house in Melbourne.
Is that classed as a DOOF DOOF one??????

It is when you turn up the bass and the volume and play one of those silly, bassy things that passes for music these days.

Nick, my 18 year old son has got a similar setup with the sub and 2 6 inch speakers crammed in the back of his extra-cab ute. I can hear his doof-doof ute coming down the street before I hear his sports exhaust. But when you're in the car, the sound is very clear. That's the advantage of power in the amp.

I've got an alpine, ipod compatible, head unit, alpine type s splits in the front, polk audio 6x9's in the rear parcel shelf, a 1400watt rockford fosgate amp in the boot runs these spaekers and a pioneer 800watt mono block amp runs my 2 12in subs, which are also in the boot. It's very loud and the sound quality is pretty dam good I must say. Yes it does go doof doof tiger!

Can't do fancy stuff like that in my car. Speakers would be destroyed by the crush of camping gear , fishing rods and eskies.

About a year ago I pulled out my pioneer deck, pioneer spilts, pioneer 6 by 9's, pioneer bullet 100watt subs and alpine amps and pull it all back to normal because I got over it. But now I hate my stereo, it's not loud at all. Holden make shit standard stereos.

Moving forwards I'll probably do something again and I'll get a DVD player and TV

Mine has a radio and a cd player. But that's a huge improvement from my last car which had a cassette player (yes, it was THAT old) that didn't work, and a radio that barely worked.
Does hick hop count as doof doof music?

I have a Clarion head unit but everything else is standard. Good enough for my Elvis, Stray Cats and occasional Metallica. My car is a doof-doof free zone!!

I'll play anything that is loud enough to win me a prize! If it has to be of the doof doof variety then so be it!

You guys are right about the standard Holden stereo. I have the standard CD player but the quality is nothing compared to the standard Blaupunkt unit in our Vectra.
My car doesn't go DOOF-DOOF unless I'm driving through Bankstown or Brighton and I'm in a foolly sik mood, mate.
I stir up the 4-banger brigade with the strange accents.

"Ohhh, like Bro, your ride sounds foolly sik, mate! Can I take it for a drive? I give you my sister for 2 hours, mate. Yeh, mate. I mean it. I roolly want to drive that car, mate. My cousin Ahmed got one just like it, but louder, mate."

Sheesh. The little things I do for fun! Pathetic, isn't it?:violin:

Crikey Tiger, when I drive through Bankstown or Brighton, I go as fast as possible, with all my windows up, doors locked, and the Uzi at the ready.

I don't think hick hop or whatever it is even counts as music, does it?

Hip hop isnt too bad it's that techno shit I hate. What ever happened to using good old instruments to make music? Thats why metal is still so good, It's all instruments with good heavy drum beats and beefy guitar riffs.

How many of today's deprived youth have not heard the likes of Jimi Hendrix? Maybe the good music (the REAL music) will make a comeback.

One of Tiger Cub's mates, a 19 year old, relaxes by listening to Bob Marley. Not so long ago, some neighbourhood young folk were practising their rock band numbers and were playing Led Zeppelin numbers. There is hope yet.

Depends how old you are. It's actually country rap, and yes, I know it's weird, but I'm not exactly normal myself. :)

Just remember when your grading a type of music on weather or not "real" instruments are used, one of the greatest drummers of all time used a drum machine on his first solo album & created a masterpiece at the same time.

I've still got to transfer mine from the VP commodore to the VS but i've got
Pioneer 6" splits for the front
Kenwood 7"x10" on the tray
two 12" boxed and ported subs
4 channel 5000W amp for those
all running through a Pioneer head unit
but i think for the VS i might upgrade and go a little bigger

danskee

Sly

Yeah i picked up the VS late November early December and the only reason i haven't swapped anything yet is I've been busy setting up the VS the way i like with a few little hiccups along the way but there is plenty of time for the lot.
I think i might wait a little longer and set up a dual battery system and build a high output alternator for it. But i might get some of those competition yellow mesh Kevlar coned Pioneer speaker for the front and for the tray with either set of Fusion 12"'s or a set JBL 12"'s it just depends on what i can get at the time.
but at this stage I'm spending time on how it goes

Hey everyone,
I made on my "introduction" thread that the sound system in my VE Calais is a big let-down.

BlackOne commented that the stock system in the VE's is mediocre and the speakers let it down in a big way.

His suggestion was to disconnect the centre dash speaker, replace all door speakers and tweeters with Focus speakers and adding an amp to give it some nice 'punch'.

I really appreciated this advice because I want to keep the dash (and boot space before anyone suggests doof doof stuff!) looking standard. Also not to mess with the integrated DVD and Bluetooth etc.

Any other comments or experiences on VE sound systems?

Thanks,
CalaisBoy

Hi Howard,

I just realised after reading your above post that I made a typo and meant to say FOCAL speakers not Focus. Sorry about that.

For more information on Focal speakers, check out their website: http://www.focalaustralia.com.au/

Cheers....

Just got a quick question, anyone know the dimensions of the radio/cd player area in a series 2 vx?
Reason for is I'm sick of looking at the out-dated thing and want to get one of those touch screen dvd/cd/mp3 etc. Any ideas/stock numbers you can give me to annoy the sales rep's would be great
