Just curious to know what movies people have watched lately and their thoughts on those movies.

I'm planning on going to see 'Jumper' tomorrow night.

I saw The Bucket List recently. That was pretty good. Fool's Gold had lots of nice scenery, but the plot was a bit thin. Let us know what you think of Jumper.

Well I didn't go and see 'Jumper' as planned, instead I went and saw 'Vantage Point'. Not a bad movie, I think it's made by the same guys who made Deja Vu.

I recommend going to see this movie.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm not going to any movies for the moment. Gotta save my pennies for a new car. Of course that won't happen until about 2099. :)

I sat and watched Beowulf, late this afternoon, on DVD.
The graphics were amazing to say the least.
Not a bad couple of hours of easy entertainment though.
Whatever happened to the good ol' Herculoids and Whacky Races kinda cartoons, hey??? :D
We've certainly come a looooong way since then.

I haven't seen Beowulf but want to. There are some really good movies out of coming out. Too many to list but will have a think about the ones I want to see and start a list.

For me I'd have to say Wacky Races as one of the great cartoon classics.

Pusser

Thinking about it, it's bloody hard to pick just one!! If pressed I'd have to say Battle of the Planets.

How can anyone go past The Flintstones? Or the Jetsons?
Good grief, they weren't THAT long ago were they?
Much better than Teenage Mutant Numbskull Thingies. And I'm afraid I haven't heard of some of the things you all have named. I have heard of Wacky Racers but not Battle of the Planets or Captain Caveman.
It seems Smurfs have been around forever.
Has it something to do with the fact that my hair used to be brown but isn't anymore?
Bugger!

Never got into the Flintstones or the Jetsons.
But Whacky Races comes a close 2nd to the Herculoids.
I have fond memories of playing the Whacky Races boardgame on the front porch of my neighbour's house with him and 2 of my brothers. 'Go Professor Pat Pending!!!':D

Anyone remember Sealab 2020???

YES!! My parents still have the Wacky Races board game at their holiday house in Vic. Love that game! I have heard of Sealab but never saw it.Anything like the Gerry Anderson show Stingray?

'Stingray' rings some bells, but I can't quite remember it ......

I would love to get my hands on a Whacky Races boardgame again one day. I'll just have to keep searching.

I saw Step Brothers today. It's a good movie to see if you don't want to think too hard. Very funny, but lots of swearing, and it was LOUD !!!!!
In Bruges is still my latest favourite. :)

I saw Saw V a few days ago. It was very fragmented, and I suspect I missed Saw IV. It looks like the makers are just hoping to make a few bucks on the name Saw alone. I always find it funny when they make a later version, and add bits to the plots of the earlier movies.

I also saw Journey to the center of the earth. It's very good. The special effects are amazing. All the papers say to see it in 3-D, and I imagine that's definitely the way to see it, because it's incredible even in 2-D !

BlackOne

I haven't seen any of the SAW movies yet, but plan on to, it's hard finding the time with so many movies coming out.

I took the kids to see Journey to the Centre of the Earth and though it was pretty average. Good special effects and all but I still prefer the original classic version from 1959.

GKW
31-10-2008, 09:07 PM
Haven't seen the remake of Journey to the Centre of the Earth yet and maybe won't. Not overly happy with Hollywood remaking classics in the hope we've all forgotten there was an original.

Example: Omega Man with Chuck Heston is one classic movie and then they go and remake it as "I Am Leg-End". Even Omega Man was a remake of "The Last Man on Earth" with Vincent Price...worth watching.

That said, War of the Worlds with Tom C was pretty damn good and the exception to the rule where the remake was better than the original.

Have a great weekend all.

Cheers

I have Saw 1, 2, and 3 on dvd if you want to borrow them. The first is obviously the best.

I haven't seen the original Journey to the center of the earth, but might just check it out now !

The original 'Poseidon' is great too.

Agreed about Poseidon. I never bothered watching the remake of that. Has anyone seen the original and/or remake of Dial M for murder? Any opinions?

GKW
02-11-2008, 08:44 PM
Dito re Poseidon. Didn't know they had made a remake of Dial M for Murder, but saw on the box the other night, the remake of Rear Window. Oh please..enough already.

Question to all, best car movie...."Vanishing Point" rates up there.

Cheers

Purple_Power
02-11-2008, 11:59 PM
The new Dial M for murder stars Michael Douglas and Gwynneth Paltrow, but it has a different name.

I haven't seen many car movies, but hear some of the better ones are The Italian Job, and The Blues Brothers.

Tigerv8
03-11-2008, 08:51 AM
BULLITT with Steve McQueeen still gets my vote as the best car movie. The original ITALIAN JOB runs a close second.

If you want to see a movie which is funny, poignant and thought-provoking, see THE BUCKET LIST. Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman together are great.

Thanks Glenys, would love to borrow those movies. I actually recording SAW I on my Foxtel IQ the other week when it was on Channel 9 but the damn thing didn't record the end of the movie. I was very disappointed and it left me wondering what the hell happened. LOL...

I'll give them to you next time I see you Matt. Don't you hate it when you miss the end of movies? It would be nice if shows finished on time occasionally.

Totally agreed, Tiger. The bucket list was a very well made movie. In Bruges still gets my vote though. Colin Farrell. (Where's the drool smiley?)

YOU ARE A SICK PUPPY !!!

Vixen
04-11-2008, 09:39 AM
Why is that sick Tiger? :p I have Saw 1, 2 & 3 also. Just haven't watched them all yet.
My favourite series of late-ish movies has to be 'Blade' series(mmmmmm Wesley Snipes *purrs) and the 'Pirates of the Carrabean' series (mmmmmm Johnny Depp *purrs again) :D

Tigerv8

It's sick because I am being politically correct.

Civilized people should not watch horror and gore which is the product of a twisted mind. (I mean what sort of person thinks this stuff up?)

Just because my wife and I enjoy gore and horror probably means we are uncivilized in the eyes of others. So I must put on an air of being civilized and cultured while I eat my steak raw and have the blood running down my chin.

Purple_Power
05-11-2008, 12:38 AM
If only you knew, Tiger. :) I forget who the clown is in Saw III, but I do have 2 of the creepy dolls. One is on a tricycle. I also have all of the Child's Play movies, and 2 Chucky dolls. Still working on the life sized one. That's going to sit in the back seat of my car and scare everyone away. All donations gratefully received!
