ok so most of you have seen the photos of my commodore, which was mainly bought for the purpose of towing the thing in the shed... when its ready that is, and now that its getting close to being ready to race, i thought id share a little info on it, and some pictures of course, which ill update as it progresses
ok so a bit more info on this thing...
well it started out as a completely stock g Ltd MR2, 5 spd, all the usual things, and in great condition when i got it (6 years or so ago i think)
which was fine for a few months, till i upgraded the cd player as that used to skip, stuff like that to begin with, then exhaust, intake, and a bodykit followed by some rims were all aquired from various places and i was quite happy with that for a couple of years, but i stumbled accross some info on a v6 conversion on the us mr2oc forum, so i started researching it a bit more, followed by some pricing of necesary bits before i decided that was the road i wanted to take, sure i could have gone turbo, sure i could have just sold up and bought a turbo, but i wanted to go v6 partly to stay n\a and partly cos it was different, and also partly just to prove to myself and others, that i could do such a conversion.
so i did, and then thats how the car stayed for a year or so, was my daily driver for most of that which was epic fun (if youve been in a v6 mr2 youll understand, just something about it)
then the bug bit a little more, and what started out as a sand back with intent of respraying the car to make it at least one colour and semi tidy (unpainted kit etc at the time)
quickly became a total strip to a bare shell, fitment of a 6 point roll cage, msnz homologated naturally.
followed by being put on the back burner due to the corolla i had at the time blowing an engine and thus getting the blacktop treatment, and moving house set it back also.
then i reassemlbed a fair bit of it after painting things silver, which after a few months i decided i didnt really like the colour so perhaps i should just redo it and go with my original idea of red cage, and white on the rest of the car, after much thought, and moving house again, to levin this time, i bit the bullet, stripped it back down, and repainted the cage red (what a mission!) and then repainted everything on the shell white, took a while to do but definatly glad i did,
this has been followed by countless hours of reassembly including a long list of modifications to better suit a track toy, which is what its going to be, with the possibility of making it road legal at some stage in future, the stage its now at it runs, has an exhaust (as of saturday) and can drive itself out of the shed, but doesnt have brakes yet (no fluid) so cant really go any further yet, the remaining list of required things is getting shorter and shorter now so hopefully not too much longer before it hits the track, finally!
as it currently stands the mod list is something like this...
3VZFE engine conversion
TRD oil cap
TRD radiator cap
twin 2" exhaust systems with 3.5" tips on the mufflers
solid Urethane engine mounts
Fidanza lightweight flywheel
turbo mr2 pressure plate on n\a disc to suit s54 gearbox
facelift sw20 discs and calipers all round
Cusco brake master cylinder stopper
Cusco front and rear Strut braces
D2 RS coilover suspension all round
16" two piece rims, dished, of unknown variety running 205\50\16 DZ101s front and 225\50\16 Toyo T1Rs rear
TRD valve caps
Veilside replica bodykit
3d style GT wing
shaved aerial
relocated windscreen washer jets
glued in t tops (complication with the cage required the mechanisms to be deleted, this was the easiest option)
Racepro seat
SRS 6 point FIA approved harness
6 Point MSNZ homologated roll cage
fire extinguisher
TRD shortshifter and leather gear knob
sportline steering wheel
Autometer fuel level guage, water temp guage, oil pressure and oil temperature
Gizzmo dual stage shift light
Battery master switch and acc switches to replace ignition
rewired entire car to suit
modifed door trims etc to suit
sound deadening removed
heater removed
a/c removed
abs and power steering removed
theres quite possibly a few things iv left off here too
and of course theres plenty still to do, and over time no doubt this will get further developed as its really only a simple
setup for clubsport type events at this stage
anyway, some pics!
