I wouldn't bother looking for cheap brakes. You usually get what you pay for. Cheap brakes made in China are liable to disintegrate on a high-speed application. You may be able to get some second-hand good discs with a lot of looking around.

repco & supercheap usually have sales running every month. i picked up my DBA slotted rotors from repco for if i remember correctly $150 each. but it'll pay you to ask about which pads to fit with them as the rotors chew into them and cover your wheels in crap!! i have bendix ultimate's in mine and will never buy them again!! ebc greenstuff or the police spec pad (bigger pad by about a 1/3rd) will be my next choice when time to do again.
don't by the cross drilled & slotted rotors as it is possible that they may crack through the holes if they heat up too much

DBA slotted rotors for your car are $107 each at supercheap auto's here in Canberra Paul. I looked into them for mine and will be getting some soon. Well worth the money to improve braking I think.

Do slotted brakes really make that much difference? Sorry, call me stupid.

they help to eliminate brake fade by de-glazing the pad when your brakes are applied hence giving them a better bite onto your disc. and yes they are a worthy investment when mated up with the right pad

I suppose you spend all this money doing mods to your car to make it go faster and then you have to spend another heap of cash to stop the thing. GREAT.

I think it is really only an issue if you do multiple hard stops from speed. The normal discs should be adequate for a couple of hard stops from 100kph plus in a row but I have never tried them out.
Come to think of it, I don't seem to use brakes very much. I have done over 90,000km and when I last looked a few weeks ago I had used a tad over 1/2 the front discs and about 1/3 of the rears.
Mind you, I am sure a set of Brembos would pull you up like an anchor from the Queen Mary every time. Nice to have but are they worth the cost?
If you want to try your brakes out, when you go to Macquarie Pass , try a quick trip DOWN the pass!! That was the only time I have ever experienced brake fade in my little 1976 VW Golf. The pedal was almost on the floor by the time I reached the bottom due to overheating (I guess) and boiling of moisture in the brake fluid.
Brake systems are probably better now and I probably know a little more myself but give it a whirl anyway.
