we are currently looking at a valiant regal
we have a slight problem with roadworthy thou it has detatchable head rests
these came out from factory and they just slip over the seat
a local mechanic wont pass the car because of these even thou it is a factory released headrest

does anyone know anything about this?? do we have to change the seats or find a mechanic who knows what they are talking about that will pass it

its in prime condition everything on the car is original and they only want 5g for it because its lacking a blueslip

If it was built before about 1971 or 1972, the cars didn't need to have headrests. After this time, all new cars sold here had to have inbuilt headrests. So if your car was built before headrests became compulsory, it should not need to have one to pass rego today.

There are lots of older cars driving around registered and without headrests.

Hi,If you go to the rta [roads and traffic]web site you should be able to download the rules and regs for registration. It will tell you the regulations for registering your vehicle ,in short the does and don'ts what will pass and what wont pass. arm yourself with facts and then ask the mechanic most of them don't no[so put in to hard basket]
