WARREN EVANS "Wazza" Memorial Cruise & BBQ to Wisemans Ferry Sunday 31 Jan 2010

The basis for this cruise which is now in its second year is to honour the memory of Warren “Wazza” Evans, one of the very first members of Club Commodore and also Club Commodore’s first “Members Rep”, who sadly passed away on Australia Day 2009.

For those who never had the pleasure to meet or know Wazza, he was seen by his peers as welcoming to all new members, someone who gave encouragement in people’s endeavours, who absolutely loved to have a laugh, was a friend, a mate, someone you could count on, someone who could make you laugh, someone…....….who embodied the spirit of the club and gave it its heart.

He was what this Club is all about. He was the 'Heart of the Club'.

In honour of his memory and contribution to Club Commodore Australia Inc. “The Wazza Memorial Award” will be awarded on the day and then yearly thereafter, on each and every such cruise, to the club member who in the opinion of the Club members demonstrates and lives by the values and qualities that made Wazza what he was.

Annually, this award will be voted on by all financial Members and presented the person who is seen to reflect all of these qualities. Someone who not only has the Club at heart, but also its people.



Cruise Details



Date: Sunday 31 Jan 2010

Destination: Hawkesbury picnic area - Wisemans Ferry

Sydney meet point: Thornleigh Macca's - Pennant Hills Rd Thornleigh

Meet time: 07:30am at Macca’s

Departure time: 8:30am (must leave by 8:30am to meet central coast members by 9:00/9.15am)


Central Coast Meet Point: Northern side of Hawkesbury River Bridge on the left hand side of the Pacific Highway, heading north. As this area is limited for parking, we will not be stopping. Central Coast members will join cruise at rear of convoy.

Meet time: 9.00am for 9.15am

CCA will be putting on a BBQ for members and guests. $10.00 per head for steak, snags, rolls and salad. Just bring a plate and whatever you want to drink.

Do not be late as you will be left behind.

If you are running late or have to cancel on the morning please contact one of the following numbers to advise.

In the event of breakdown, falling behind or accident etc contact a lead car asap. Don't be scared get on the radio and inform everyone for your own safety and theirs.


We'll be travelling via the Old Pacific Highway for a change on this cruise.

Directions:

Approx 125 km – about 2 hours (estimated arrival 10.30am)

1.Head northeast on Pennant Hills, then Pacific Highway Road for approx 5.5kms and this will take you to the rail bridge at Hornsby.

2.Continue on Pacific Highway through Hornsby, then Cowan and continue on this road for approx 40kms.

3.At the Calga Interchange, turn right and go 100m, then left into Peats Ridge Rd. The start of the Peats Ridge road at Calga Interchange goes back under the Freeway and then does a 180 degree loop and then you just keep going strait.

4.Stay on Peats Ridge Rd for approx 14 kms

5.Veer left on George Downs Dr.

6. Continue on George Downs Dr for approx 2.0kms then turn left into Wisemans Ferry Road.

7. Continue on Wisemans Ferry Rd for 53 kms until you reach the car punt at Hawkebury River.

8. We will be crossing the Hawkesbury River via the car punt. The punt is fee and once on the other side, drive into the picnic grounds, turn right and follow road to end car park.

If we have time on the way, we'll have a rest stop at Spencer along the way, but will determine this on route and advise.


What you will need to bring along.

UHF radio
Sunscreen
Chair/s
Swimmers (inc and spare clothes) if you want to take a dip in the river
Plate
Full tank of fuel it will be a 2 1/2 hour cruise to the destination
BYO – Drinks



Alcohol is allowed but remember .05 is the limit, P PLATE DRIVERS YOUR LIMIT IS ZERO. If you plan on having more please nominate a NON drinking driver.

Alcohol and cars don't mix your actions with alcohol affect Club Commodore and all its members and other members of the community !!!!

Please note that I have made a small change to the cruise route for Sunday. When we leave Thornleigh, we will travel via the old Pacific Highway instead of the F3.

Given we travel the F3 all the time, I thought we'd do something different.

Meet point for Central Coast members, same area, northern side of Hawkesbury River Bridge, but along side the Pacific Highway heading north...NOT THE F3.

Will contact Central Coast members on approach to advise and ask that as the cruise passes that the Central Coast members join at the rear and continue along.

- LSD

I also recently had Headers and new exhaust fitted.

Unbelievable - and what better way to take it for a nice long run than on a club outing!!

Thanks to everyone who came out to Wazza Cruise yesterday. Whilst we kicked off in rain again (I think we've started some sort of tradition with that), the drive up with everyone was great. Even the pit-stop at the markets on the way was a good laugh. By the time we arrived, sky was clearing and the temp rising and thankfully the rain held out till we left.

A great day and a great way to honour Wazza and a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Thanks to the ACT boys for coming up too. Also great to meet Matt (aka Fuzzy), out on his first cruise with CCA. Tim, great to see you and your better half out with us again. Could always pick your headlights way back in the pack..lol.

Daniel and Evan, great to have you along again too, as too the Cruzn Clan.
