I got abit of a problem with my VN that i cant figure out. When im driving along my battery light will come on. When the light comes on the heater and lights will start working over time, this stays on for about 2 to 3 minutes and it will go off. Ive checked all the earths on the car and they are nice and tight. I went to see an auto electrican to have the battery and alternator tested, they are pumping out around 200amps at 3500rpm. He told me that is great for a car of its age and that he wouldnt have a clue on whats happening. Its happened a couple of times now and ive double checked everything. It really has me stumped on what it could be.

Just wondering if any of you guys have any idea's on what it could be. Have i missed something when checking it over?

Thanks

Have you checked the voltage reg when the light comes on?

A few years ago I had something sort of the same happen in my VN, turned out that the reg was losing contact sometimes & making the battery do all the work. Might not be the problem this time, but it's worth a check.

Car was really playing up today, revs going high and low. Then it didnt wanna start. So i went and bought a new voltage reg and chucked it on, it was the problem, car is running sweet again :D

Thanks dude

I had the same problem, I pulled the altenator out and pulled the back cover off and I sand papered the contacts to get rid of the grime and shit and made it shiny, i put it back in and the Battery was charging, no more over worked noise and the battery light disappeared. Its amazing How much sensers and contacts can be affected by black residue
