Thanks to a couple members that joined the g8boards (GKW & BlackOne), I was able to find your Commodore club. I guess it never occured to me to seek out a Commodore forum when I drive one myself.

Currently I have a '09 g8 gxp which as you all know is a rebadged Holden. There has been huge and heated discussions on our boards as to what car it really is. To me its simple, its a Holden. Pontiac doesn't deserve credit for such a great car. In fact, before they started importing these over here I thought I'd never buy domestic (sort of) car again. I think there are a lot of g8 owners that could say the same thing.

Anyway, I'm at work so I'll keep it short for now. My wife's an Aussie so I get over there at least once a year for a few weeks. She's from Ballarat so most of our time is spent there or Melbourne. I did however spend a week up in Surfers when we needed a holiday from our holiday.

Here's a few pics, haven't taken any lately but I've debadged it and put a Holden emblem on the boot.

Welcome tothe forum, jmac.

Nice to see we have a forum member in the good ole US of A.

As a personal choice, I prefer the front end treatment we have in Aus, but I still think your Pontiac looks better than most US designed sedans.

Please contribute to the forum as it would be good to see what's going on over there and hear the latest news as to the future of the Commodore/G8 in the USA.

Couldn't agree more. Funny how they can take a great car, tweak it and make it worse. I'm really interested in the GTS front end, but it sells for around 4k US.(not that interested)

However, someone is working on a similar bumper for a substantially cheaper price.

G'day JMAC, and welcome !

Whilst I do like the front end of our Holdens, I also don't mind the look at that either JMAC. I particularly like the bottom section of your front bar and the vents in the hood.

I'd like to see Holden roll out the next VE SS with vents in the hood.

So when is your next trip to Australia ??

Cheers,
Matt

Not sure on my next trip. We usually head over jan,feb or mar but we're expecting our 2nd in Jan. so that forces us to think of another time. The wife is heading over in Oct.

Funny you mention it 'cause I think I need a Holiday!

G'day mate and welcome. I agree with ^ben^ here. Well maybe not love but do like em. They are a touch too boxy at the top. I knew a guy a few years back that had the 70's Trans am front end on an HQ monaro and another on a panel van and it looked sweet with the bird beak and I guess this front end is a tame version of that in my eyes. Id like something similar on my VY but a sleeker sort of set up.

Greetings jmac! Great to see you jump onto our forums. I hope you enjoy them and look forward to seeing you checking things out from time to time.

Got to admit, I do like the bonnet vents too. Always liked them on the GTO / Monaro. I note you have a different rear end diffuser to what we have on the VE here. Much cleaner lines on your. I like it.

To CCA forum users and members, check out G8board.com. A good forum with plenty of topics and discussions to check out. Good stuff!

cheers

Thanks for all the compliments! I like the vents in the hood as well. Not functional, but they look good anyway. I do like the more aggressive bumper on the Holden models however.

When the Monaro was sold over here I wasn't in a position to purchase one. Pretty impractical for me to have a coupe. Anyway, I thought the 6 liter version with the vents looked 100% better compared to the 5.7 originally released.

Welcome to the forum jmac. Which part of the US are you from ? I personally like our grille. A friend has a Chrysler 300c (or something, it's not a Holden so I didn't take much notice). We sell them here under a different name, and the grille on yours is so much nicer. Just a matter of taste I guess.

Yeah sorry, I just changed my info to display my location. I live a few blocks out the cbd in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Yeah, it gets cold here in the winter but spring, summer and autumn are awesome. Plus when it gets to -40F I don't have to convert it to C for the relatives because its the same:)

I've never been a fan of the 300c. When I was over in Aus last I was actually surprised how many there were around. Luckily I was able to drive the father in laws '07 R8 and my wife's Grandpa lent us his statesmen for one of the weeks. Now those cars are an absolute pleasure to drive!
