G'day Shaggy, good post mate. You might want to chat to Aaron (a.k.a. Munky) as I know he's keen to look at re-painting his VN Calais.

Yeah, I've got a bad case of VN acrylic paint decomposition on my roof, boot & bonnet which includes crows feet as an added bonus. I'm not sure whether to get a touch up or go to another type of paint finish. You got any recommendations Shaggy?

hey mate shaggy here, mate i own a vn and have owned them in the past and what i found that there wasnt much i could do 2 stop the acrylic from dulling off! the best solution is to throw a nice coat of 2k baked enamel over the whole car! the reason why i say the whole car is because if u just down th painted panels eventually the doors etc would fade aswel!

once the panels are in the fading stages the panels wont have any resistance 2 the weather and without protection the panels will slowly build with rust which means more money

so mate i would recconmend a full 2k baked enamel finish which will last u a life time! if u are after a price let me know which way u want 2 go and i will fix u up a good price!

thanks
cheers shaggy

Can you give me a ballpark idea of how much it would be worth to do the whole car in a different colour to what it is currently painted? or is it cheaper to stay the original colour?

hey mate
the pricing of it all depends on how much bady damage there is! just keeping the same colour u would be looking around $3000 and 2 do a full colour change between $4000- $5000! which ever way your going 2 get the same quility job! what colour r u thinking of??

Hi Shaggy,
Where is Rossy's at?

Here's a hypothetical question for you. Say someone was doing a 3 point turn, and oh, I dunno, lost concentration for a second and hit a brick wall. They scratched the paint on their bumper bar. It's very thick paint by the way! Would the whole bumper bar need repainting, or could just the scratch be touched up? It's taken off all the paint, but hasn't damaged anything else.
What sort of hypothetical price would the idiot driver be looking at?

Oh, the hypothetical scratch is about 2cm long, and 1/2cm wide.

Ok, one hypothetical question answered. It's in Riverstone! Also, is it possible to touch up some scratches that are through to the white? They're from trees that I've parked near. There are a few little ones on the doors (a couple of centimetres) and a long one on the boot.
Ta. :)

hey there mate,

generally most scratches end up being 2 deep and there4 cant b polished out! if it turns out u have 2 paint it u will b looking at bout $400 for the bar repair and the scratchs 2 b fixed! dont 4 get that this is an estimate and i will need 2 have a look at it in person 2 give u price! i hope 2 hear back from u soon

cheers shaggy

G'day shaggy,
CRIKEY! That much for a hypothetical scratch. :( It's actually not a scratch, it's where a brick has actually scraped a chunk of paint off. It's black underneath, which I'm assuming is bare bumper bar, and there's a chunk of paint at the end that's been pushed up, if that makes sense. No offence, but Riverstone is a little bit far to travel, especially if the car needs to stay in hospital overnight.

Thanks for the quote though !
Glenys :)

Chequers,
Looks like a good case for a bottle of touch-up paint. I used it on my car for a bar scratch down to the plastic which was about 10cm x 2cm. Although not the ideal finish, it is usually not too noticeable from a distance.
The bars cop a hiding, so every now and then I go around with the touch up paint.

Thanks Tigerv8.
I did that, but there's a big chunk of paint that's been scrunched up. It probably needs sanding off. The only damage mine has (apart from one hypothetical scratch) is from stone chips, and trees, etc. :(

Poor car. It deserves a better mummy. And mummy deserves a NICE purple car.

Now how spooky was that?

You REALLY got some marks from trees shortly after you said this. You set up a jinx.

And to think some joker quoted me $4000 to do a back yardie on my other VR body in just white (original colour) & ONLY for the outside & ONLY in an ok (read not great or show worthy) job at that!!! & it was all going to be done in his garage at the end of my street!!!!!

In the words of the great Daryl Kerigan "Tell him he's dreaming"

And did I mention that he told me the same job would cost $10,000 in a shop????

That guy must think you work for the NSW state government.

They are paying $20 million or more to set up a street race circuit for the Supertaxis when there is already a proper race circuit already sitting there at Eastern Creek which they also paid for.

And the $20 million will undoubtedly blow out to $30million or more. They are such bad payers that contractors have to charge them twice as much as normal to cover the finance costs while they wait to be paid.

And hospitals have wards closed because the government doesn't want to pay staff.

Maybe the club could apply to the government for a grant to buy some land and build our own little private race circuit.
